As an SLP, we are trained in treating feeding and swallowing disorders. This is primarily addressed in the hospital, early intervention, skilled nursing facilities, private practices, and the home health setting.
Here are some developmental milestones: 5-12 months: Introducing soft solids using a silicone feeder (please check out baby led weaning if interested in introducing solids as there is specific steps) 10-12 months: Introducing straw cup and open cup drinking 12-15 months: Eliminate bottle and pacifier as it impacts dentition 12-24 months: uses a rotary chewing pattern to safely swallow solids
Please avoid the following foods: Hot-dogs, whole grapes/cherries, and popcorn for children under 3 as it can be a choking hazard.
